Hatsu

The stone reveals to us,
Its real form,
Its inner form.

In Hatsu, matter and spirituality are interdependent. Mark Daovannary is inspired here by the meditative practice of sculptor Tetsuo Harada, who taught him direct carving. During a silent evening, he observed the Japanese artist connect with a block of raw stone before working on it. Harada believed that sculpture only reveals the inner form of a material. In his work, Mark pays homage to him by highlighting the veins in alabaster and accentuating its organic appearance.
